Del Shores Foundation Runner-Up
John has competed with his script writing for years. Most recently, John's short screenplay "Hey, Kiddo" won runner-up in the 2023 writers search. He was previously placed as a semi-finalist for his full-length play Coming Out. The Del Shores Foundation seeks to elevate queer voices in the US South. You can learn more about them here.
Austin Film Festival Second Rounder
Ghost Light was selected by Austin Film Festival as a second-round pick for its annual playwrighting competition. This distinction is reserved for plays that get high praise from two reviewers. Only 20% of entries achieve this honor. Ghost Light was written during John's time in Glasgow, Scotland. It tells the story of three siblings trying to grieve their abusive father when dealing with a paranormal threat.

John's other awards include a Star Award for Playwrighting from Bossier Parish Community College for "A Night on the Bridge" (2016), and a National Award of Merit with AG Youth Ministries Fine Arts Festival (2011)
